Fundraise for RSF
We're hugely indebted to the many ways in which people and organisations raise funds for us. Here are just a few recent examples.
Andy's seven marathons in seven days!
Malton businessman, Andy Reeves, has managed to complete seven marathons in as many days - raising £8,500 for Ryedale Special Families with the feat.
The funds, which will go towards our new building, were collected in support of Mr Reeves' undergoing a full marathon (on a treadmill, on October 6) and the Yorkshire Marathon (on Sunday, October 20), in between which were sandwiched five pre-planned routes. The five pre-planned routes were all 26.2 miles long - the official length of a full marathon.
Mr Reeves said: "Running seven marathons in seven consecutive days was one of the most demanding physical and mental challenges I have undertaken, and there were times when it felt incredibly tough to keep going, but knowing that I was raising money to improve the lives of local people in the Ryedale area was enough to inspire me to continue every day.
"Knowing that someone local will directly benefit from my efforts makes me feel very humble that I got to do 'my hobby' and raise funds and awareness for such a great local charity who have supported me throughout the process."
Rob's epic 1,200 mile LEJOG cycle adventure!
Rob Davies, our Funding Coordinator and organiser of our annual Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge, decided to get on his bike and celebrate his 70th birthday (albeit belatedly) by cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats.
Having taken up cycling more seriously during 'lock down' Rob decided he wanted to do something really special to celebrate his 70th birthday last year. Unfortunately a bout of Covid followed by Long Covid put paid to that but undeterred Rob decided to re-schedule everything.
Leaving Land's End on 2nd September, Rob cycled on the Sustrans route, which uses disuded railway lines, canal paths and quiet country lanes. Cycling an average of 45 miles a day he arrived in John O'Grotas on 2nd October.
Rob said: “It was an incredible journey and one that still feels very surreal. I'm overwhelmed by the support I've received from 170 people and I hope what I've done will inspire others to go the extra mile and surprise themselves as to what's possible."
